On May 15, 2025, the University of the Cordilleras (UC) successfully conducted its Orientation Program for New International Students for the 3rd Trimester of Academic Year 2024–2025. The orientation, held from 1:00 PM to 4:30 PM, welcomed 20 international students into the UC community. The event was led by Mr. JohnFrey Cabalonga, Coordinator of the International Students Services Office, together with officers from the International Students Organization (ISO).

The program commenced with a discussion on the services offered by the UC Accounting Office. Ms. Sarah Balagot, Credit and Collections Clerk, provided a detailed explanation of the various fees international students are required to pay, placing emphasis on the non-citizenship fee. She also presented a comprehensive breakdown of the tuition and miscellaneous fees to ensure transparency and clarity among the students.
Following this, Ms. Ligaya Vindua, University Registrar, took the floor to discuss student visa-related services. She emphasized the importance of renewing student visas at least three months before their expiration and introduced the key personnel that students can approach for visa processing assistance. Ms. Vindua also reminded the students to be vigilant in handling their personal information and to avoid sharing sensitive documents with unauthorized individuals

An informative audio-visual presentation showcased the services provided by several vital support offices: UC Medical and Dental Services, the Guidance and Counselling Office, and the Student Development and Welfare Office. These presentations highlighted the university’s commitment to the physical, emotional, and social well-being of its international students.
Mr. JohnFrey Cabalonga then discussed the services offered by the International Students Services Office, focusing on the readmission process and the ongoing monitoring of students’ academic performance. His talk reassured students of the continuous support the office provides throughout their academic journey at UC.

The next speaker was Ms. Esther Okolinta, Vice President of the International Students Organization. She introduced the ISO and its role in helping international students feel at home, build community, and engage actively in university life.
The orientation concluded with heartfelt closing remarks from Ms. Mervhi Lynne B. Lucio, Officer-in-Charge of the Student Development and Welfare Office and Coordinator for Scholarships and Special Programs. Ms. Lucio warmly welcomed the students to the Philippines and to UC, assuring them that they are not alone. “You have us,” she said, underscoring the university’s commitment to providing a nurturing and inclusive environment for all international students.
The orientation served as an informative and encouraging start for the new international students, equipping them with essential information and reinforcing the support system that UC has in place for their academic and personal success.
